(San Francisco, February 7, 2012) – The U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals today upheld the historic August 2010 ruling by now-retired U.S. District Court Chief Judge Vaughn Walker finding Proposition 8 unconstitutional. Lambda Legal’s Legal Director Jon Davidson issued the following statement:

(Atlanta, February 1, 2012) — Today, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit reversed a lower court ruling and remanded the case of Lambda Legal client, Richard Roe, back to district court. Roe applied to be a police officer with the Atlanta Police Department (APD), but was denied employment because of his HIV status.

Today in the United States Supreme Court, Lambda Legal filed a friend-of-the-court brief on behalf of 16 national HIV advocacy organizations in support of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, commonly referred to as the ACA.

(Dallas, TX, January 4, 2012) -- Tuesday night, the Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD) Board of Trustees voted 4-1 to add gender identity and expression to its nondiscrimination policies. Three policies were amended by the board. The first covers employees. Two others protect students.

Today, the Iowa District Court for Polk County ordered the state's Department of Public Health to issue a birth certificate for two year-old Mackenzie Gartner, a child born to a married same-sex couple in 2009, listing both spouses as Mackenzie's parents in reliance on their marriage and the spousal presumption of parentage it creates.
